Church of Our Lady, Bruges

Church of Our Lady, Bruges

A landmark with a 115.5m brick spire, featuring Michelangelo's Madonna and Child, altarpieces, woodwork, and royal tombs.
The Church of Our Lady is one of Bruges’ defining landmarks, recognised by its 115.5-metre brick spire, among the tallest in the city. Built over the course of two centuries from the 13th century onwards, it contains an important group of works of art and devotional objects. Most notable is Michelangelo’s marble Madonna and Child, one of the few sculptures by the artist to leave Italy during his lifetime. Altarpieces, carved woodwork and the tombs of Charles the Bold and Mary of Burgundy add further depth to a visit.
