Château Grimaldi in Antibes has origins in late antiquity and later became a medieval stronghold of the Grimaldi family. Its position above the Mediterranean and the old town gives it a particularly commanding setting. In 1946 Picasso worked here for a period, and the building now houses the Musée Picasso, where works from that stay remain alongside other modern art.
