Salamanca

Salamanca

This historic city boasts a stunning skyline, a grand plaza, two cathedrals, and a 15th-century retablo, all within a short train ride from Madrid.

With its compact skyline of towers, churches and tiled roofs, Salamanca is among Spain’s most appealing historic cities. Highlights include the Plaza Mayor, the Patio de las Escuelas and the pair of cathedrals, the earlier of which contains a fine 15th-century retablo. The journey from Madrid by train takes around two and a half hours.
