Villa Carlotta occupies a fine position on the western shore of Lake Como at Tremezzo. Built at the end of the 17th century, it is known for its extensive Italian gardens, where terraces, fountains and sculptures are set among azaleas, rhododendrons and other seasonal planting. Inside, the museum contains works by Canova and Thorvaldsen. Together, the house, gardens and lake views make this a richly varied visit.
