San Lorenzo

San Lorenzo

A historic quarter with Brunelleschi's basilica and Michelangelo's chapels, blending high Renaissance art with vibrant local markets and workshops.
San Lorenzo is one of Florence’s oldest quarters and closely associated with the rise of the Medici family. The basilica, reworked by Brunelleschi, and Michelangelo’s Medici Chapels make it a district of particular architectural interest. At street level, however, markets and workshops keep it lively and recognisably local. The area allows high Renaissance patronage and everyday Florence to sit side by side.
