Santa Maria Novella

Santa Maria Novella

A key Florentine site blending Gothic and Renaissance styles, featuring Alberti's façade, frescoes by Masaccio, Ghirlandaio, and Brunelleschi's crucifix.
Santa Maria Novella is one of Florence’s principal churches and an important meeting point between Gothic structure and Renaissance intervention. Alberti’s façade is among the most influential of the 15th century, while inside are frescoes by Masaccio, Ghirlandaio and others, together with Brunelleschi’s crucifix. The cloisters and Spanish Chapel extend the richness of the complex beyond the nave. It is a church of exceptional breadth and refinement.
