Church of Santa Fosca (Torcello)

Church of Santa Fosca (Torcello)

A graceful small church with a Greek-cross plan, elegant columned portico, and appealing simplicity, offering a serene contrast to nearby mosaic grandeur.
The Church of Santa Fosca on Torcello stands beside the cathedral and offers a more restrained counterpart to its neighbour’s mosaic splendour. Built between the 11th and 12th centuries, it follows a Greek-cross plan and is surrounded by a portico of elegant columns. The building’s simplicity and proportion give it much of its appeal. It remains one of the most graceful small churches in the lagoon.
