Madonna dell’Orto

Madonna dell’Orto

A 14th-century Gothic church in Cannaregio, featuring Tintoretto's masterpieces and a serene canal-side setting, offers an atmospheric Venetian experience.
Madonna dell’Orto in Cannaregio is a 14th-century Gothic church closely associated with Tintoretto, who lived nearby and is buried here. Several of his major works remain in the church, including The Last Judgment and The Worship of the Golden Calf. The brick façade and tranquil setting beside the canal give the building a more local, less ceremonial presence than the great churches of the centre. It is one of the more atmospheric corners of Venice.
